Homegrown Star ...

Actor Ty Keogh has lifted the prestigious 'Sexiest Man of the Year' title at the 2012 YOU Spectacular, adding this to a host of notable achievements over the past few years ...

The recent success of local actors like Sharlto Copely ('District Nine') bears testament to the fact that we have the ability to create International Stars right here a home.

Much like Australia, South Africa is fast becoming known for producing world class actors, but it takes more than just Raw Talent to 'make it big' in Tinseltown. Steely determination, ambition and an insatiable work ethic are also essential, and the latest star in the film firmament, Ty Keogh, has more than enough of those qualities.

A Bit About Ty:

Born in Johannesburg in 1982, Ty grew up with film in his blood. His father, Danny is a successful South African actor and mother, Debbie is a producer, so it was a given that he would gravitate toward the Silver Screen.

He started his career aged 14 the hard way, paying his dues in various related production jobs including stints as a scenic set painter, set builder, propsman and even an animal wrangler. Later Ty honed his skills as an art director on commercials and music videos before eventually taking on the role of director.

At 16 he began appearing in TV commercials for some high profile brands including Vodacom UK, Pepsi USA, Opel Europe, Orange Communications, Nestle, KFC and many more.

In 2003 he stepped into his first major film role alongside British hard man Vinnie Jones in 'Blast' where he played the younger version of Jones' character 'Michael'.

Since then his acting career has blossomed with parts in some major international films including: 'Blood Diamond' (with Leonardo DiCaprio), The Deal' (with Meg Ryan), 'Goodbye Bafana' (with Joseph Fiennes) and 'Starship Troopers Marauder' (with Casper Van Dien).

Moving to London in 2008 he signed with the prestigious agent Jeremy Conway and appeared in several short films as well as 2 BBC television shows before returning to South Africa. After relocating to Johannesburg he secured the character role of 'Jack van Reenen' in MNET's popular series, 'The Wild'.

Ty has put his multi dimensional talents to good use in the world of fashion and modelling, scooping up several awards including CLEO'S 'Bachelor of the Year' in 2011GQ's 'Man of the Moment' and Cosmopolitan's 'Mr. April', both in 2012. He has also graced the cover of the Men's Health Winter Style Guide and has recently been working with the renowned photographer, Byron Keulemans.

Vandenberg: Life Below the Surface

Australian photographer and diver Andreas Franke has completed a gallery collection that may just be the first of its kind — a photography gallery underwater on a sunken ship ...

He has digitally manipulated the submarine images he captured around the sunken boat Vandenberg (on which the Collection is exhibited), on Artificial Reef Off Key West, to create a parallel universe under water titled Vandenberg: Life Below the Surface.

The series Life Below the Surface is installed at the location of the wrecked ship. The pictures are encased between sheets of plexiglass and have a steel frame sealed with silicone to avoid the water from entering.

Andreas Franke on his work:

"In my photography I try to construct illusionistic worlds. I like to see things from a different angle and I try to create new kind of views. Thereby taking images of a sunk ship and bringing life back to the ship by filling these images with stories was always very interesting for me."

Q-rious to see how this all happened? ...The video below documents the installation of such a particular exhibition.

Glory Days

For their August 2012 issue, Vogue Germany included plenty of Romance and Mystery in their striking New York-Based editorial titled Glory Days, leaving me Daydreaming of this Glamorous City (and a few of these Gorgeous Dresses) ...

Featuring the exquisitely beautiful Toni Garrn, photographed by Alexi Lubomirski and styled by Christiane Arp, the editorial captures the Femininely Elegant Allure of 1940’s fashion: Highly embellished dresses, structured coats and pointed-toe pumps.

Garrn’s blonde locks were pulled into a loose, retro French twist by Ben Skervin, and her make-up kept subtle and fresh by Tyron Machhausen .

I Love this Dress!!

This is definitely an Editorial that evokes a Romantic Nostalgia within me

Wrangler Launch

Thursday Night was the official Launch of Wrangler in Jozi CBD. It was a Star-studded event in the Beautiful Turbine Hall filled with Beautiful People and Authentically Hot Denim ...

Being one of the 3 biggest denim brands in the world, Wrangler has an impressively rich heritage which encapsulates the spirit of freedom and being yourself.

Worn by the likes of David Bekham, and Rhianna means they make a pretty good pair of jeans which you'll look good in too.

A Bit About Wrangler:

Founded in the USA in 1904, Wrangler was originally named “Blue Bell” and has its roots in workwear. It was renamed Wrangler, meaning “working cowboy”, in 1947 and focused on delivering denim innovation and authentic craftsmanship devoted to its denim heritage. The iconic Wrangler stitch is the signature of Wrangler, distinguishing it from the “Lazy S” of LEE and the “double arcuate” of Levi’s.

After seeing the impressive range on the runway, and being at the wonderful launch event,  I can't wait to get my own pair of Wrangler jeans. You can buy them at the end of July, 2012, in selected Stuttafords stores.

Solipsist

Inspired by the ideas of convergence and unison between living things, Solipsist, is a Psychedelic Fantasy Short Film built on elaborate costumes, some light, dust, and multiple visual effects ...

Solipsism is, in incredibly simplified terms, a philosophical theory that one can only be sure of their own mind's existence.

The short film's plot is on point with this convoluted theory; a Meta Mind boggler, with intriguing and seemingly Beautiful Aspects.

Director, Andrew Thomas Huang, said: "The isolation of this theory inspired me to imagine a counter-hypothesis – a world in which living beings are not constrained by a singular experience. Rather, the characters in this film are constantly merging into one another, forming a collective consciousness through unison of their minds and bodies."

Huang is an experimental film maker and commercial and music video director. The Los Angeles-based artist has garnered a lot of attention for his work, most recently winning the Special Jury Prize for the Experimental Short at the 2012 Slamdance Film Festival.

Both Playful and Colourful in its execution, it shows everything from feathered dancers and underwater puppets to bodies disintegrating like drifting sand. This is an Absolutely Mind Blowing Video with remarkable Visual Effects where a fascinating new hybrid takes shape as human, animal and technological elements are merged.

Q-rious to see what it's all about? ... See the Video Below:
