Black Coffee joins explosive line up of performers at Red Bull Beat Battle

With just a few days until they take the stage in the Red Bull Beat Battle final, all eight crews are hard at work perfecting their routines. It’s been a long two month lead up to the event for the crews and they’re eager to put their practice to work on the stage ...

Not only will the crowd be treated to the country’s best crews but they’ll also enjoy a list of Mzansi’s best performers. Award-winning DJ Black Coffee joins DJ Dr. Malinga, Reason and Zakes Bantwini on the list of hotly-anticipated performers on the night.

Returning as judges are Somizi Mhlongo, Lorna Maseko and Bboy Gerald Witbooi aka Vouks while Red Bull Beat Battle alumnus Tumi Tladi joins the judging panel. Tumi was part of the 2011 Red Bull Beat Battle winning crew Artistic Intelligence and has since performed and choreographed for international acts both at home and abroad.

Each crew’s overall performance, technical execution, originality and group uniformity during their performance will be closely scrutinised by the judging panel.

Holding it down as the evening’s MCs are the sensational Fix Moeti and suave Thapelo Mokoena.

Red Bull Beat Battle takes place at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto this Saturday, 1 June 2013. Tickets are R100 at Computicket.

Style Inspiration: The Great Gatsby

[via]

Gatsby Fever is everywhere! From the window displays and sneak peeks of the jaw-droppingly gorgeous costumes in the movie, to the star-studded soundtrack and hints of Gatsby-esque style showing up everywhere... I, personally, can't get enough! ...

[via]
Baz Luhrmann's "Great Gatsby" delivers some serious eye candy (in addition to Leo, of course). In line with the era's decadence and glitzy hedonistic romps, the movie will be bursting with color and eye-catching visuals. But most of all, we're excited for the elaborate costumes, hair, and makeup.

Kate Bosworth's First For Topshop

TOPSHOP has launched a collection inspired by Kate Bosworth. The 16-piece range is designed to be the perfect festival wardrobe, including shorts, dresses, waistcoats and shirts.

"I've always had a love of fashion. To gain learning experience from the Topshop design team has been a great opportunity for me," said Bosworth. "Our intent was to create fresh, wearable, and effortless festival pieces. I am proud of our work together and I adore these pieces, they fit perfectly with the mood of the Topshop Festival collection." ...

The actress' relationship with the high street store started at Christmas, when she sung in Topshop's festive video campaign, shot by her fiancé, Michael Polish. The muse has already worn a few of the collection's new pieces - stepping out in the patterned waistcoat and brown ankle boots at Coachella in April - but she'll offer her take on how to best wear the range through a short interactive film, named The Road To Coachella, once again directed by Polish. Each item featured in the video will be available to buy, including the soundtrack, which users can download from iTunes.

"Kate and I were discussing the summer trends and how she had been one of our inspirations," said Topshop creative director Kate Phelan. "She was here working with us on our Christmas project and the next day Kate came in with all these incredible images and references and shared what her ultimate festival outfits looked like. It is an organic extension of Kate's fashion sense aligned with the Topshop brand - we think that's fresh and exciting."

Topshop's festival celebrations don't end there - the brand will host a series of secret pop-up gigs from exciting emerging talents at various locations all over the world, events open to randomly selected customers. A music partnership is also in the pipeline, with details to be unveiled later this month. I'm just hoping that Topshop South Africa will also be featuring this collection on their shelves (hint hint).

ELLE launches their Rising Star Design Award for 2013

Are you young, talented and dreaming of your own fashion label? ... If so, don’t miss out on an outstanding opportunity as ELLE and Mr Price join forces in launching your career with the ELLE Rising Star Design Award for 2013. Entries open on 20 May 2013 and entry forms and more information are available in the June issue of ELLE and online.

Not only will the winner be given the opportunity to launch his or her own fashion label, but an extensive mentoring programme will offer invaluable fashion and business knowledge that one needs if one is to succeed in the competitive and dynamic world of fashion ...

According to Jackie BurgerELLE's Editor, the Rising Star Design Award was conceptualised to satisfy the need to identify and nurture young design talent and to offer valuable experience to succeed in the fashion world. “The competition and the collaboration with Mr Price, one of SA’s biggest fashion retailers, is a perfect fit for ELLE which is recognised as one of the world’s leading fashion titles and authorities”, concludes Jackie.

Apart from the opportunity to redesign a pre-determined range in collaboration with Mr Price, a cash prize of R25 000 from Mr Price is also up for grabs to help the winner launch his or her career in fashion. The extensive mentorship programme, both during the competition and for 12 months after being named the 2013 ELLE Rising Star, will include two weeks at the Mr Price head office in Durban where the winner will be exposed to the complete retail cycle, from trend forecasting to merchandising. The winner will also receive personal coaching by a business expert from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and two weeks’ fashion inspiration at ELLE's Cape Town office with Editor Jackie Burger and her fashion team.

The recognition of winning this award will be further enhanced, as the winner will have the opportunity to show their range at the 2014 ELLE Rising Star Design Award, including R6 500 from Mr Price towards the cost of creating the range. Apart from featuring in ELLE, the winner will receive a year’s subscription to the magazine for further fashion inspiration.

Entrants have to be final-year fashion design students or fashion graduates with no more than 3 years’ design experience who are not currently employed by a South African retailer.

Happy 1st Birthday Grazia SA!

Break out the champers and grab yourself a slice of red velvet to join in the celebration – tomorrow SA’s first fashion and news weekly celebrates its 1st ever Birthday. And to mark the occasion, Grazia South Africa has enlisted the country’s most talked-about and ultra-stylish celebrity to grace the cover of their birthday issue ...

Hitting newsstands from tomorrow (10 May 2013), Bonang Matheba, the queen of local social media, TV and radio talks to Grazia's Mokgadi Seabi about her reinvention in the special 50th issue of the magazine, which was shot in Sandton by star photographer Aubrey Jonsson ...

Grazia South Africa editor Danielle Weakley says Bonang was the obvious choice not just because of her trailblazing style which has seen her garner countless awards but because the star, who juggles a multitude of gigs from Top Billing and Clash of the Choirs to her popular slot on YFM, is one of the hardest working and most astute young women in the entertainment world today.

“Bonang is everywhere this year – And its only May! With a line-up of TV shows, a slew of weekly appearances, several magazine covers and hundreds of thousands of followers, we predict that her entry on the Forbes List is only the start of her 2013 tour de force” says Weakley.

But what would be a birthday celebration be without a surprise? The birthday edition is a bumper mag – and one of only two issues Grazia will produce as a perfect-bound collectors’ issue. In a further nod to the globally savvy, thirty-something urban readers (who avidly buy Grazia every week to find out what they can add to their wardrobes), the fashion and news weekly has unveiled a brand new website www.graziadaily.co.za and an online Grazia shop at www.spree.co.za/grazia where you don’t even need to leave your desk to shop the looks straight from the magazine.

“We truly believe in the power of Grazia as a 360-degree brand and the idea of being able to shop the mag appeals not just to our brand ethos but also to our fashion-smart, digitally-savvy readers.”

Over just 50 issues, the 21st syndicated edition of this weekly glossy magazine has single-handedly revolutionized the local publishing industry since its launch in May 2012, with other publications following on its stylish heels to cover fashion on a weekly basis.

Out every Friday, Grazia South Africa has quickly gained a reputation for bringing news with shoes and speed with style, week after week.

The Deliciousness of Yogoorus ...

Yogoorus (pronounced yo-gurus) has launched at Melrose Arch — bringing with it a whole new frozen yogurt taste experience in an exciting selection of 40 flavours and 70 toppings ...

Yogoorus opened its first store in December 2012 at Cedar Square in Fourways where it captivated the young at heart with its ‘serve yourself’, ‘weigh and pay’ concept and delicious product. Yogoorus is more than mouth-watering magic, it exudes fun too. Customers love the experience of using the machines that dispense swirls of frozen yoghurt and choosing from the vast range of toppings. The selection is then weighed – and priced accordingly,” explains Ruben Schoeman, one of 4 entrepreneurial gurus behind this development, along with partners Manny, Carlos and Joe Pestana.

The flavours range from exotic ‘fruity tooties’ such as watermelon, pomegranate and mango & pine, to ‘wacky ‘n wicked’, which includes Turkish delight, liquorice, white chocolate, and nutty toffee. The toppings include nuts and muesli, daily prepared fresh fruit, chocolate and sweet and sour treats.
Some of the Yummy Toppings ♥

Added to the array of taste sensations available from Yogoorus is a real health benefit. Yogoorus is a healthy treat as the frozen yoghurts are 98% fat-free, they contain live probiotic yoghurt cultures, natural fruit purées, preservative-free flavourings, and premium quality, fresh milk — all of which is sourced locally.

My choice of Yogoorus — Coconut, Peanut Butter & Honey and Watermelon!

Adding further to the fun factor is the appealing retro-slick branding, interior design furnishings, together with large plasma screens featuring music DVDs and high profile sporting events.

Comments Joe Pestana, “Two of the strongest consumer trends globally are health and indulgence; usually the two don’t go together – but with our frozen yoghurt offering they do. Already the stores are exceeding expectations as customers come back again and again, either to try a new selection or to have another helping of their favourite combination.”
And I will be coming back for the Watermelon Froyo

The Melrose Arch store opened on Saturday 4 May to an unprecedented performance by 1st Project (who are just EPIC) and the pounding sound of Drum Machine, South Africa's only Percussive Performance DJ, with Shannon Ellinas as the man behind the machine. Using a 55-inch transparent Holoscreen, accompanied by 13 light drums and cymbals, he combines the latest in music, technology and percussive showmanship to rock dance floors around the world — dazzling the invited guests at the Yogoorus official launch event.
