What started 12 years ago and over 600kms away as a gathering of friends in a picnic stall at the Durban July has evolved into a permanent fixture on Joburg’s social calendar. It’s Pink Punter and for the first time ever it’s taking place at Gauteng’s premier entertainment destination — Montecasino ...

Bigger and better than any Pink Punter before, Pink Punter 2013  Posh in Pink at Montecasino hits the Montecasino Outdoor Events Area on Saturday 6 July 2013 from 11:00 to 22:00, and will feature an outdoor tent town, beer garden, cash bars, large screen televisions, live race feed, fantastic entertainment and great DJ’s, live betting plus loads of beautiful people splashed in pink and having a good time in the sun. 

It’s the biggest Durban July party in the province and with prizes for the best dressed, you have every reason to step out in style and enjoy all the fun, fashion and festivity of the Durban July in the City of Gold  in pink.

The concept of getting friends together to enjoy the festivities of what the Durban July has to offer is key to the event’s success. The Pink Punter's "cult-like" popularity saw it outgrow the picnic stalls of the Greyville Racecourse in Durban and led the event to Johannesburg in 2008. 

Ironically, moving the event to Joburg was an overwhelming success, with numbers swelling from 350 guests in 2008 to 2000 in 2012. During this time, the Pink Punter has been refined into a professional operation encompassing everything that's great about the Durban July  one of South African’s finest horseracing events. 

2013 sees Pink Punter moving venues once again to accommodate all those party-goers who have missed out in the past. The new venue at Montecasino allows for an enhanced Pink Punter experience while still maintaining the outdoor feel of past events.

ALDO has unveiled CHECK YOUR HEDGE, a global marketing campaign that celebrates the days when summer’s great escape becomes an adventure close to home. Who needs to go anywhere when the sun’s so high and there’s a garden getaway calling? ...


For the shoot, accomplished photographer Dan Jackson lent his camera eye to a bold, graphic vision of an ALDO summer. Leafy greens and poolside blues inspired by David Hockney are given an over-the-top pop-art twist by models Jourdan Dunn, Emily DiDonato and Florian Van Bael.


“We decided to mix it up in 2013 - a sophisticated and ambitious concept, a strict styling code, a new photographer, two girl models instead of one, and capped by a bold early 90's nod to one of our favorite bands from back in the day. CHECK YOUR HEDGE is mischievous, elevating, and inviting all at once. It feels confident, like when someone winks - not in a flirty way but in the 'I get you and I get it' kind of way,” explains Douglas Bensadoun, Creative Director — Vice President, Marketing, ALDO

MasterChef Judge Scores With Boktown Inspired Menu

Season 2 of MasterChef SA is in full swing and in the spirit of a MasterChef Invention Test, Montecasino challenged Tsogo Sun Celebrity Chef and MasterChef SA judge, Benny Masekwameng to create a two course menu inspired by ABSA Boktown at Montecasino — the Home of the Official True Supporters’ Village ...

Benny’s Boktown inspired menu featured a truly South African steak roll consisting of grilled Cajun-spiced and BBQ basted sirloin steak slices on baby rocket leaves topped with Chakalaka and Peppadews, and wrapped with a herbed ciabatta roll, served with a Greek side salad and baked crispy potatoes, and for dessert, a traditional apple crumble served with mixed berry compote and Crème Anglaise. On arrival guests were served a green Martini.

The final clash in the Castle Lager Incoming Tour takes place this Saturday, 22 June and sees our Boys take on Samoa. Complete with live entertainment, Springbok-themed prizes, boerie rolls and beverage offerings, best dressed competitions, Springbok ambassador appearances and more - there is no limit to the amount of fun, laughs and good times to be had!
